The He-111 was the Luftwaffe's only mass-produced heavy bomber, even though it had only two engines. It was regarded as a medium bomber by US standards. A fleet of over 700 He-111s were at-the-ready on the eve of Germany's attack on Poland. They launched devastating bombing raids on Warsaw. But during the four-month long Battle of Britain, Heinkels suffered heavy losses, from which they never recovered.
