No less than 20,000 Fw-190s were produced between 1939 - 1940 In them, many pilots achieved remarkable combat feats: Josef Wurmheller shot down seven Mk V Spitfires in one day over Dieppe - despite a concussion and broken leg; Otto Kittel, 4th highest scorer, made 220 of his 267 air victories in a Fw-190A. Other high scorers with more than 100 victories, gained them with the guns of the "butcher-bird".
