Founder of the
Black Sheep Squadron, Gregory "Pappy" Boyington compiled a record of 24
confirmed and 4 probable kills. He was shot down in his F4U-1 Corsair over
Rabaul in January 1944. After being rescued by a Japanese submarine, he
