While the B-17s may have stolen the limelight, the Liberator, with nearly 20,000 made, did most of the work. B-24s attacked targets far out of the range of other allied bombers. It could carry 4 tons of bombs over a range of 1,000 miles. Of the 15 major variants, the "J" was the dominant model. The Liberator served both in Europe and the Pacific.
